Update for 2012 - 2 of the 3 are now junk. The cord breaks off where it goes into the seat. It's unfortunate that this weak point has not been engineered to withstand more than a year's use. I love the seat, but it won't last you more than a year or two.
The Brondell model has come down in price and is more sturdily built. However, it has a big, thick power cord that is difficult to route and conceal. I really liked the long, thin, low-voltage wire of the UltraTouch, but unfortunately I can no longer recommend it. I haven't contacted the company yet, but may do so before buying a Brondell just to give them a chance to make good.

Ok, one final (hopefully!) update...
I got no response to my emails to Hogue, Inc. so I called their toll free support number and actually spoke to a person. He was very polite and professional (Stan was his name), expressed surprise and immediately sent me a replacement after I told them the problem and gave him the invoice number. The replacement arrived 7 days later and has been working great ever since (more than 2 months now with no sign of a hot spot). I guess it was a manufacturing defect of some sort. I'm upgrading it back to 5 stars for functionality and friendly, competent, English-speaking service. I almost hate to unplug it for the summer!

UPDATE TO PREVIOUS REVIEW! Less than one month after installing this product a hot-spot developed right where the wire goes into the seat. With 10 days the hotspot got too hot to sit on and burned through the top of the seat. I disconnected the seat because I don't want to risk a fire. On February 3, 2010 I contacted the supplier, Hogue, Inc of Paso Robles, California (93447) requesting a replacement or refund. To date they have ignored my request. I will attempt to contact Amazon today to explore my options and will keep you posted. For now, I DEFINITELY DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT! It works great for 2 weeks, then becomes a fire hazard. I have a photo of the burn-through, but this site doesn't accept JPG uploads.

I looked at all the varieties of heated toilet seats prior to this holiday season and read the reviews. $500 for a toilet seat?! Gimme a break! I took a chance on this one and it was the right choice.
Installation: Installs in minutes with no tools other than a screwdriver (or a coin). The low-voltage design means that a very thin, flexible power cord can be used from the small AC-adaptor block that is at the wall-plug end. There is a male/female connector in the low-voltage cord approximately 24" from the seat, which is a very convenient feature because it allows you to pass the cord through a 1/2" hole for discrete installation in a cabinet base if desired. The power cord is about 9 or 10 feet in length, ensuring that you won't need to use an extension cord. The cord and adaptor are white and the plug-end adaptor measures 2"(d) x 2.25"(w) x 3.25"(h). The adaptor plugs directly into the outlet - there is no 120V cord leading to the adaptor. The cord can easily be run along a baseboard, or even behind quarter-round molding if the 90-degree angle of the molding is chamfered (which is standard with commercial quarter-round).
Comments: You definitely will need to remember to put the seat down, otherwise the heat is lost pretty quickly. You don't really notice the heat - which to me is good. What you do notice is the lack of cold! My wife has given me a hug and kiss after each use so far ... it's the hit of this Christmas season in her book. I highly recommend this - it works great, is nicely designed, attractive and reasonably priced.
